One of the most significant finds of the Xanthones found in Mangosteen fruit has been in regards to the benefits for some types of cancer, and deserves special mention.
Mangosteen contains more than 40 natural compounds that were discovered through many scientific studies to have very potent healing properties. These compounds are called Xanthones. Alpha-mangostin and gamma-mangostin are two of the most-studied of the Xanthones found in Mangosteen. But there are other Xanthones and natural compounds in the Mangosteen that also provide powerful health benefits.
Garcinone E has been studied for its cancer-fighting properties. Scientists in Taiwan tested Garcinone E against human cancer cell lines for primary liver cancer, stomach cancer and lung cancer. It was also compared to anti-cancer chemotherapy drugs Flouraurcil, Cisplatin, Vincristine, Methotrexate, Mitoxantrone and TaxolŽ. In this study, Garcinone E was found to
be more effective than all the drugs tested except TaxolŽ.
There are also Polysaccharides in Mangosteen. Polysaccharides are potent anti-cancer compounds that block a mutated cell's ability to stick to healthy cells, thus helping the body stop the spread of cancer.
There are also high levels of Catechins in the Mangosteen. Catechins were shown to be five times more effective as antioxidants than vitamin C, one of the most potent antioxidants that are found in food. It has been proven that Catechins help prevent the formation of cancer-causing compounds by blocking co-carcinogens, raising the body's natural detoxification defenses and directly suppressing cancer growth.
Mangosteen also contains Quinones, which were found to have significantly inhibited or stopped the growth of malignant cells from human colon carcinoma. Quinones are also known for their anti-bacterial properties.
Polyphenols are also found in the Mangosteen. Polyphenols were shown to be more potent antioxidants than even vitamin E, considered one of the most powerful known antioxidants.
There are Stilbenes in Mangosteen. Stilbenes protect plants from fungi. But Stilbenes, even when ingested, maintain their anti-fungal properties. They are also strong antioxidants.
The presence of these compounds in the Mangosteen makes it a virtual medicine chest of natural healing compounds found in nature. |
